How to set up a new nominal code in Sage
Answer

Nominal codes are used inSage Instant Accounts to allocate income and expenditure details into different types for accounting purposes.

When setting up a new Nominal Code in Sage it is important that you know which boundary your new code should fit into because there are pre-set boundaries for different types of nominal codes, click here for more information.

To set up a new Nominal Code, go to the Company module and click on New:

A wizard screen will then appear to guide you through setting up the new Nominal Code.

Make sure that you have all the details you need, for example the record name you wish to use, the account type (eg sales, purchases, direct expenses, etc), the nominal account code to be allocated and the category (eg product sales, sales of assets, etc) and any opening balance that you want to apply to the nominal account:

Click on Next and fill in the relevant details in the Wizard as required.
