Question

Answer

AvaPA reads a special file that specifies connection information to connect to the database. This file is updated each time you update Ava by pointing it at the "Update" directory.

If you are getting the following connection error while starting up AvaPA...

... try the following solutions:

Manually update AvaPA

Re-copy the connection file to your computer by manually updating AvaPA:

  • Click "Start"
  • Click "All Programs"
  • Click "Ava PA"
  • Click "Setup Auto Update"
  • Then click "Find AVAPA.exe to update from"
  • Browse to the "Update" directory and let AvaPA update itself

Double check your AvaPA shortcut settings

When you run AvaPA using a shortcut on your desktop, the shortcut tells the program where this connection file is located. To double check your shortcut holds the appropriate settings to run AvaPA:

  • Right click on your shortcut and click "Properties"
  • In the "Target" box, at the end of the path specifying the location of AvaPA, there should be the path to the UDL connection file, enclosed in square brackets:

  • Make sure this exists in your shortcut's target. Also double check that the path is correct and the UDL file mentioned actually exists.
